I will be participating in a Tea Party Rally outside Somerset Mall on January 16, 2010. In addition to voicing my opposition to Obama Care I want to recruit new members to the Tea Party movement. To do this I will print up cards with the names, website addresses, and points of contact for every Tea Party group in Southeast Michigan and nearby areas. I will then canvass the crowd and hand out the card to anyone who is not currently affiliated with a Tea Party group. This enables people to join the Tea Party group that is closest to their home. We need to grow our ranks as we prepare for 2010. Obama’s group, Organizing for America, is already building their network in Michigan. We need to stay ahead of them.

Please email wes@limitgovnow.com with the name and phone number for your group’s point of contact. Also, let me know what city you generally hold meetings at so that a new recruit knows where your group is located. I will print cards for the January 16 rally and I will email you a .PDF file so you’ll have an electronic copy of the card. I need your response by Friday January 15, 2010 (at noon) to give me time to print the cards.

Also, if you know of a group that I’ve missed please contact me so I can get in touch with them and include their information. The groups that I am currently aware of are:

912 SE Michigan Rally (Madison Heights, MI)

Ann Arbor Tea Party Patriots (Ann Arbor)

    Dan’s T-PP (Hazel Park)

Jackson Michigan Tea Party (Jackson Michigan)

Lapeer County Tea Party Patriots (Lapeer county Michigan)

Metro Detroit Freedom Coalition (Metro Detroit )

    Metro Detroit Marchers (Metro Detroit)

Michigan Tea Party (Madison Heights, Michigan)

    Michigan Unity (Throughout Michigan)

    New Patriot Revolution (Lansing)

Port Huron Tea Party (Port Huron/Blue Water Area Michigan)

    Rattle With Us (Plymouth)

    Shiawassee County 912 Commission (Owosso)

Southeast Michigan 9.12 Project (Metropolitan Detroit, Michigan (Macomb, Oakland, Wayne counties))

Let Freedom Reign (White Lake Township)

    Campaign for Liberty

    Grassroots in Michigan (Lansing)

It is my intent to get more people involved with our cause. It doesn’t matter to me which group a person joins. All that matters to me is that they get involved to help out in 2010.

  • Obama Care: Liberals Play the Race Card, Again

I recently circulated a petition in my neighborhood against Obama Care.  You can read about this petition drive in an article that was just published by the Livingston County Press and Argus.

In response to this newspaper article, a Liberal writer (named Communications Guru) posted a comment on my blog calling me a racist. This phony charge was not unexpected.  Indeed, playing the racism card is just what liberals tend to do.

Long known in America for their culture of divisive rhetoric, liberals toss out the racism card whenever they are losing a debate.  Liberals never seem to want to talk about the facts, like the fact that a majority of citizens are against Obama Care.  Instead, they prefer to resort to name-calling.

Liberals also know they cannot win in the arena of ideas. They know they have lost the health care debate and so do not even try to discuss important policy issues and real reforms that would make a real difference, like malpractice insurance reform, or interstate competition for health insurance, or health insurance portability.  Instead, they try to shut down further discussion by bringing out their version of the nuclear option, the racism card.  Apparently, the Liberal comment writer thinks that a person must be racist if he prefers to keep his own personalized health care plan rather than a one-size-fits-all government plan controlled by Washington.

But every mainstream American knows the heath care debate has nothing to do with race.  Americans do not want to risk their health care by turning over control to the Washington ruling class.  Americans of all colors just want to keep their right to choose the health care plan, the doctor, the hospital, and the prescription drug plan that is best suited for their families.

I will continue to discuss the issues as the other side attempts to divide America along racial lines.  This Liberal will not silence my voice by hurling the racism card at me.  I have endured far greater attacks against my Freedom of Speech since I started my activism earlier this year.  You may recall from an earlier blog post that someone vandalized my vehicle in retaliation for voicing opposition to Obama Care.  Left-wing zealots “keyed” my vehicle with racist messages such as “KKK” and “White Power.”  While this hate crime caused over $3300 of damage it has not and will not prevent me from moving forward and speaking out for the rights of all Americans to choose the best health care plan for their families.

A neighborhood group is forming to fight for limited government.  This includes fighting for personalized heath care choice and preventing a Washington takeover of 17% of our economy. Email wes@limitgovnow.com for details.

  • Arguments Against Obama Care - Flash Flyers Part II

The concept of flash flyers was discussed in an earlier post.  If you recall, flash flyers are one of the most effective means of conveying your message to an uninformed or undecided person.  I have added two additional flyers since then.

One flyer discusses the value the Federal Government places on a woman’s life relative to the value it places on a child’s life.  In my opinion both lives are equally precious.  However, the Feds do not agree.  Governmental actions indicate it is unconscionable to accept a mortality rate 4 out of 2,100,000 children (or 1 out of 525,000), while it is perfectly acceptable to let 1 out of 1904 women die from breast cancer.  If you do the math the Feds are concluding that a woman’s life is only 0.36% as valuable as a child’s life.  If government bureaucrats take over our health care you can expect more of these types of decisions.  To a bureaucrat you are just another number.

The next flyer discusses four key points.

    1)  How the politicians will force you out of your current health plan by forcing costly mandates on your company-provided plan.

    2)  The virtual certainty that socialized medicine will by vastly more expensive than what is currently estimated.

    3)  The Senate’s refusal to consider common sense methods of reducing health costs like increasing insurance competition and implementing tort reform.

    4)  The criminal penalties associated with this health bill if you do not knuckle under to the government and accept this new entitlement.

  • Your Neighbors Want to Fight Obama Care

Yesterday I went door to door in my neighborhood circulating a petition in opposition to Obama Care.  The response was great!  During my hour and a half endeavor, I collected 15 signatures, only one person declined to sign.  This is a 94% success rate.  It was truly awesome to see firsthand that my neighborhood was filled with knowledgeable citizens who are as concerned about the course of our country as I am.

In addition to sending a message to Congress, this petition drive provides me an opportunity to meet neighbors I hadn’t known before and chat with them about the state of our country.  It was reassuring to me to discover my views are right in the mainstream of other concerned Americans.  Further, the petition drive enabled me to inform my neighbors that I am running for Precinct Delegate in the Republican Party.  My message to my neighbors is that I will work to change the Republican Party to the Limited Government Party.  This message resonated with all who signed my petition!

I have spoken with others regarding the initial success rate of this petition drive.  I am encouraging all TEA Party groups to join in.  Several colleagues have asked me to post my blank petition form on my blog so that they can use it also.  When you petition your own neighborhood I am confident that you will find the experience as rewarding as I have.  You will get to know your neighbors better and you will find like-minded people who are willing to get involved.  This is what grass roots organizing is all about.

  • Tea Partiers, Increase Your Influence

I have added a new page to my blog. The name of this page is Flash Flyers. This page contains newspaper articles and editorials discussing current events – such as Obama Care. I have copied the articles and added my own editorial comments in the margins. These comments elaborate on various issues discussed in the article/editorial. In essence, these comments help the reader to “read between the lines.”

The concept of flash flyers was presented during activist training I attended in Hillsdale, Michigan. Flash flyers are one of the most effective ways of informing the public about an important issue, such as Obama Care or Cap and Trade. The vast majority of Americans do not follow politics as closely as you and I; therefore, it is up to us to pass along information to counter the propaganda espoused by the Administration and their media allies.

Flash flyers are effective because they present information using a media company that average Americans are familiar with. The first flash flyer I have posted on my blog is a copy of an editorial from USA Today. Americans that are not politically active would generally view USA Today as respectable news source. All I have done with this flash flyer is present the USA Today point of view along with my commentary that point out issues that editors chose not to elaborate upon.

To maximize the effectiveness of a flash flyer I recommend that you print copies of this flyer and distribute them to your moderate/independent friends and neighbors. Experience has shown that a hard copy conveys the information in a more influential manner than an emailed copy. Another effective method of distribution would be to leave a handful of copies in the cafeteria at work for others to read.  Other ideas include leaving flyers in a restaurant, library, or an airport waiting area.

If time constraints prevent distribution of a hard copy then an email copy is acceptable. As a reminder, you should endeavor to pass this flash flyer on to more than just your conservative friends who already agree with your point of view, otherwise we are just preaching to the choir. Lastly, I encourage you to make your own flash flyers and help your circle of friends, “read between the lines.”

  • Left-Wing Obama Care Propaganda

Michigan Tea Party patriots. Here is a email from Joe Biden, distributed by Organizing for America. OFA is Obama’s propaganda arm. I thought readers might be interested in the distorted liberal flak being thrown up to disguise their true intentions. Far-left liberals do not care about your health care, they only care about their political power. If they truly cared about costs they would restrain malpractice suits, open up the insurance industry to competition across state borders, provide portability of insurance policies, increase health savings accounts, etc.

    Friend –

We’ve got a fight on our hands. Powerful insurance companies are pulling out all the stops to defeat the President’s plan for health reform. They’re spending seven million bucks a week on lobbyists, blanketing the country with deceptive TV ads, and just funded two high-profile “reports” to distort what reform would mean for you.

I know their game. I was in the Senate the last time health reform came around, and I saw the special interests savage our efforts. Frankly, under the old rules of Washington they were nearly impossible to beat. But now, thanks to you, the rules are changing. All the lies, scare tactics and lobbyist shake-downs in the world are no match for the incredible work of Organizing for America supporters like you. That’s exactly what frightens them so much — and it’s what Barack and I are counting on.

After decades of false starts, we’re now just a short time from finally passing real reform. Every member of Congress will soon have to cast their vote. As real change draws near, you can bet the insurance companies will hold nothing back. That means OFA will need the extra resources to beat back whatever attack they can dream up next. Here’s the bottom line: it’s not time to let up — it’s time to double down.

Please donate $5 or more to power OFA’s fight for change as we head into the final round.

When I talk about you changing the rules in Washington, here’s what I mean: This week, crucial negotiations on Capitol Hill are shaping a comprehensive reform proposal. At the same time, the insurance companies’ phony reports are grabbing headlines and their lobbyists are twisting arms. But your work is keeping them from setting us back.

On Tuesday, OFA supporters around the country organized more than 1,000 local outreach events and generated an astounding 330,000 calls to Congress from constituents telling their representatives that “it’s time to deliver.” From my years in Congress and my conversations with Senate colleagues this week, I can tell you with confidence that your message broke through and you helped keep us on track.

If this fight were only about guaranteeing the choice of secure, quality, affordable care for every American, it would be worth everything we could throw at it. But as Barack reminded us this week, this fight for change is now about something even bigger: a test of whether or not “we as a nation are capable of tackling our toughest challenges, if we can serve the national interest despite the unrelenting efforts of the special interests; if we can still do big things in America.”

I believe we can. And Barack believes we can. But what really matters is whether you believe we can. If you do, now is the moment to make it happen. Please contribute today:

  • Hate Filled Racist Writings by ObamaCare Supporters

    Hate Crime by Obama Supporter

Yes, former President and Navy Officer Jimmy Carter, along with the rest of Obama’s minions have it right when they say the debate surrounding socialized medicine is full of hate and racism.  I have seen this first hand.  Yes, hate is being hurled full speed at American citizens, but it is coming from the port side not the starboard side.

For those unfamiliar with nautical terms the port side of a ship is the left side when one is facing forward.  If one faces backwards, as is the case for left wing racists, then the port side appears to be on the right.  It is easy to see why Obama’s bigoted minions, with their backward facing point of view are confused—they don’t know left from right, let alone port from starboard.

A Calling Card from Former Colleagues of Senator Robert Byrd (D) West Virginia

A Calling Card from Former Colleagues of Senator Robert Byrd (D) West Virginia

Before I describe the hateful actions of Obama’s supporters, I need to provide you with some context.  I am an American of Asian descent.  For a number of months I have been exercising my 1st Amendment rights by attending Tea Parties throughout Michigan and in Washington, D.C.  Further exercising my free speech rights I attached a banner across the rear of my van that shouts at the top of my lungs “Euthanize ObamaCare.”  This banner has generated lots of attention from passing motorists.  The vast majority of motorists that express an opinion give me the thumbs up.  Only a small fraction shows me an extended middle finger.  The typical ratio is 90% thumbs to 10% fingers.  Judging from the thumbs I see, Americans are giving ObamaCare the middle finger.

I think Obama’s devout followers also sense there is a lack of public support.  They are getting desperate and feel the need to silence the opposition.  They saw my banner as a threat to their socialist utopia and attempted to scare me into silence by vandalizing my vehicle.  I guess I am not surprised that Obama’s followers would resort to thug-style tactics as public support of their dear leader’s plan continues to wane.

While I was on business last week in Cranberry Township, PA, (north of Pittsburgh) some of Obama’s cronies attempted to intimidate me by scratching racist messages across my vehicle.  The words “White Power,” “KKK,” and “f___ you” greeted me as I approached my vehicle to depart the hotel where I stayed for the night.  At first, I thought some joker just wrote these messages in the morning dew.  When I reached my vehicle it was clear that the hate-filled rhetoric was of a permanent nature.  The perpetrators scratched and scribed their words into the paint, perhaps using a set of car keys.  I guess when Obama issues directives to “punch back twice as hard” his followers really take those commands to heart: they defaced every door, the back hatch, and a front fender.  I now see how an angry mob reacts when incited by a community agitator.

Supporters of ObamaCare Expressing What They Think of American Citizens

Supporters of ObamaCare Expressing What They Think of American Citizens

The police officer who came out and took my report stated that this vandalism was a hate crime.  This took me by surprise as I hadn’t thought of this as a hate crime.  Rather, I viewed this as an act of political vandalism.  But, as the officer explained, the words chosen by the perpetrators would definitely put this into the hate crime category.  The racist language etched on my vehicle by Obama supporters were meant to intimidate me, a minority, from expressing my point of view.  I wonder if Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson would be interested in probing into this civil right violation… probably not.

Even though I was victimized by a hate crime I will not view myself as a victim.  I will not wallow in self-pity and blame white society for the shortcomings of our country—as left wing zealots commonly do.  I will press forward as a vocal advocate for true American freedom.  Even in in the face of left-wing racial intimidation, I will continue the fight against socialism and the erosion of individual liberty.  I’m on the starboard side.  I’m steering forward.  And I know I’m right.

(You can confirm this incident for yourself by contacting the Cranberry Township Police Department at 724.776.5180.  Patrolman William Roberts (extension 1410) took the report.  The incident occurred on October 1, 2009. )

  • Racism at 912 March on Washington?

    Wes Nakagiri 8:29 pm on September 20, 2009 | 0 Permalink | Reply
    Tags: , , , , ObamaCare, ,

Attending the 912 Taxpayer March on Washington D.C. provided me with memories that I’ll treasure for the rest of my life.  Marching side-by-side with millions of other Americans whom believe in the values of limited government and free-market capitalism was truly electrifying.

The March was scheduled to depart from Freedom Plaza, close to the White House, at 11:30 AM.  Walking from the hotel to the plaza I could see people streaming in from all directions.  It reminded me of columns of ants marching toward an unattended picnic basket.  What started out as handfuls merged into dozens, then hundreds, then thousands as these columns descended upon their target.  The orderly columns observed a few blocks earlier congealed into an amorphous mass of humanity as my wife and I arrived at the plaza around 9:30 AM.  We were thankful that we had the foresight to arrive two hours early, giving us ample time to find the contingent from Michigan.

This sea of humanity continued to build as the clocked ticked toward the scheduled departure time.  In short order the crowd became so large that organizers started the march one hour early to relieve the pressure building up in the plaza.  This early start was confirmation that today’s crowd would be of monumental size.

As the day progressed we waded through the masses to soak up the entire experience and view the many creative signs and t-shirts.  People were very friendly as we stopped to chat and photograph their creative messages.  Every now and again others would ask us to pause briefly so they could get a good snapshot of our protest tools.  It was quite flattering when others found my message to be inventive enough to warrant a snapshot.  The spirit, behavior, and friendliness of those in attendance made me proud to be an American.

Being there in person is the only way to capture the totality of an event like this.  Without being a participant there is no way to adequately capture both the content and the “feel” of this historical march.  With this thought in mind I asked myself, “How would today’s experience be captured in the news media?”  As I viewed the day’s events on TV I was disturbed, but not surprised, that political leaders supporting ObamaCare injected racism into the discussion.  During the Fox Report at 7:30 on Saturday, Jehmu Greene, a former political director of the DNC (Democrat National Committee), stated that protesters carried Confederate flags and racist caricatures of Obama.   In response to this race-baiting assertion I quote a now famous American, Joe Wilson of South Carolina, “You Lie!”

Contrasting Ms. Greene’s characterization with what I saw and experienced first-hand during the event provided me with an educational lesson that I’ll be forever grateful for.  Now that someone has played the race card on me I have seen for myself there are political leaders that foment racial divide to move their leftist-agenda forward.  People like Ms. Greene falsely claim the mantle of racial equality as they attempt to divide America along racial lines.  It is crystal clear, average Americans fighting against ObamaCare have to develop thicker skin and get beyond the discomfort of being labeled as racist by their political foes (and the mainstream media).  The only racism I see connected to the 912 Taxpayer March comes from political leaders on the Left that support Obama’s socialist policies.

  • Brighton & Troy Tea Parties Ignored by Oakland Press

    Wes Nakagiri 2:58 pm on September 11, 2009 | 2 Permalink | Reply
    Tags: , , , , , ObamaCare, ,

My wife and I, along with some of our neighbors attended Tea Party Express rallies in Brighton, MI and Troy, MI.  Our forces are growing as we recruited two more neighbors into our ranks.  These two first time rally-goers were exposed directly to the passion and the concerns of everyday Americans as they struggle to halt Obama Care and stop our nation’s slide into socialism.  They now have seen first hand that there are thousands in their communities that share their same point of view.  They now have first hand information that has not been processed through the filter of a potentially biased media organization.

The crowds at both rallies were huge.  An estimate of 4,000 people (at Brighton) was provided the Livingston County Press and Argus.  Having been to many large rallies I believe this estimate to be accurate.  By my first hand account, the Troy rally was even larger than the Brighton rally.

The Tea Party Express rallies have generated a lot of enthusiasm and momentum in Michigan among an eclectic array of citizens all fighting to beat back Obama’s big government agenda.  Much media attention, both national and local, has been generated due to the large crowds.  As expected, some media organizations do a better job than others in capturing both the facts and the feel of these events.  I’ve personally read print articles, run the day after the rally, from the Livingston County Press and Argus, the Oakland Press, and the Detroit News.  It is fascinating to compare their writings with what I saw first hand.  The Livingston paper provided the most comprehensive and accurate coverage capturing both the facts and the essence of the Brighton rally, while the Detroit paper covered both rallies but not in great depth.  I have no objections to these two articles, although I’d like to have seen more detail from the Detroit paper.  The same cannot be said for the coverage in the Oakland Press.

The Oakland Press’ coverage of the Troy rally widely missed the mark.  They chose to focus on an Obama Care support rally which they stated drew a crowd of 50 people.  Their coverage included a front page photo of a solitary supporter holding her Obama Care sign.  Coverage of the Tea Party rally was relegated to the tail end of the article.  This type of coverage is analogous to giving front page headlines to the team that lost the Super Bowl while barely mentioning the team the won.  And, oh by the way, the victors won by a score of 72-0.

In addition to focusing on the losers, the Oakland Press grossly misstated the size of the crowd.  They claimed there were 200-300 people when there were closer to 4,000 for the Tea Party rally.  A mistake of this magnitude makes me wonder if the reporters viewed this event through heavily tinted sunglasses, perhaps a nice rosy shade of red Kool-Aid.

Given the total mischaracterization of the Troy events I examined the byline to see who actual wrote this literary masterpiece.  The byline indicated that the authors were John Garcia and Shaun Byron, Special to the Oakland Press.  Hmm, “Special to the Oakland Press.” What does the term “Special to the Oakland Press” mean?  The word “special” implies that this article is above and beyond that which is normally published.  Does the Oakland Press consider these two journalists to be special or does this newspaper consider this article to be special?

Whatever the case, I too would use the term “special” in describing this piece of journalistic malpractice.  This article does appear to have a unique and special level of fraud and deceit, unusual by even mainstream media standards.  Of course I could be off the mark as this level of charlatan writing may be just run of the mill for this publication.  Having been at the Troy event in person allows me to unequivocally state that this story is not just a piece; it is the whole steamy pile.  I’m very lucky as my first hand knowledge enabled me to nimbly side step this stinking mess.  Unfortunately for Oakland Press readers that did not attend the rally in person, they will have to scrape off the soles of their shoes.

I close this blog post with a comment from an Obama Care supporter at the rally in Brighton, Michigan.  She told the Livingston County Press and Argus that many people are ill-informed about Obama Care.  You know, she is probably correct.  Wow!  Did I actual say that?  It is very rare that I’m in agreement with someone with a “Yes We Can” point of view.  Even though I disagree vehemently with Obama’s socialist policies I will tip my hat to his supporters when they are correct.

Yes, there are many ill-informed people.  This is likely because they get their information from biased media organizations like the Oakland Press.  These readers are exposed only to the party line of those that want American citizens to give up their health care rights to bureaucrats of the federal government.  These people consider themselves to be informed because they read a newspaper or watch TV.  They don’t even realize they are being propagandized and lied to because of the extent to which left wing tentacles have woven their way into mainstream media organizations.  To these readers a left wing bias is just par for the course. These uninformed people believe they are reading the unvarnished truth when in fact they should disinfect their shoes and keep an eye out for where they step next.

Link to Oakland Press story. Note: The Oakland Press did not have an on-line version of their story. It appears that the Oakland Press used a story published by the Daily Tribune. (This link takes you to the Daily Tribune story).  The text in the print edition of the Oakland Press is identical to the text in the on-line version of the Daily Tribune.  The photo used by these two media organizations are different.  Looks like readers have two piles they need to avoid stepping into.

  • Tea Party Express Stops in Battle Creek, MI

The Tea Party Express bus was met with roaring approval at Friendship Park in Battle Creek, MI. This Labor Day rally in Battle Creek occurred on Day 11 of a 16-day nationwide tour.

    What Are the Chances?

    What Are the Chances?

This bus tour started on August 28 in Sacramento, CA and it will culminate on September 12, 2009 with a Taxpayer March on our nation’s capitol in Washington D.C. The organizers of the Tea Party Express are leaders in the fight against Obama Care, Cap and Trade, out of control spending, and Obama’s socialist agenda.

The bus arrived around 8:45 PM, about 75 minutes past the scheduled arrival time of 7:30. Despite the overdue arrival the crowd stayed put and remained enthusiastic. In fact additional attendees continued to stream in even as the bus arrived. Even intermittent periods of light rain didn’t dampen spirits. I would estimate the crowd size to be in the neighborhood of 1500. It was a great turnout as the crowd filled the park’s amphitheatre and overflowed along the street and across the way.

battle-creek,scorecardMy wife and I arrived early, about 6:30, to get a good vantage point and talk with other likeminded individuals before the event formally started. Arriving early also gave me an opportunity to use my Sony boom box to serenade the crowd with sound bytes of Obama elaborating on his plans for America. Among other topics, these bytes included Obama lecturing a woman about how it might be better to give her elderly mother pain killers rather than surgery to correct her ailment, and how his Cap and Trade plan would necessarily cause electricity rates to skyrocket.

During the actual festivities there were speeches and musical entertainment. My hats off to the leaders and organizers of this bus tour as they are performing a great service for patriotic Americans all across our great nation. They are the catalyst bringing Americans of all political stripes together to combat Obama’s socialist agenda. They deserve our thanks and our financial support.

    Statue of Liberty Costume

This rally is receiving national press coverage. Mark Williams, one of the leaders of the Tea Party Express, mentioned that there were reporters from CNN and the New York Times at

Kid with Obama Mask - The Sign Says it All!

Young Kid with Obama Mask. The Sign Says it All!

the Battle Creek rally today. It is great to see this movement getting national press coverage. Will the coverage be fair or will it have the typical tilt to the left? I’ll report back after their stories are released. I also saw a Fox News reporter and cameraman, but I think they were a local station, and a man who appeared to be a local newspaper reporter. So the Battle Creek viewing area and newspaper should see coverage as well.

National media coverage is a great indicator of success for this grass roots movement. Coverage makes it difficult for our elected officials to ignore the will of the American people. While we should be proud of our accomplishments there is still much work to be done. As the evening came to a close an important reminder was given to all attendees. We must continue to grow this movement. We cannot return home satisfied that our efforts are generating nationwide attention. We must build on our successes and organize into a stronger electoral force. The entrenched powers in D.C. are betting that we won’t have the staying power required to either influence their votes or boot them out of office. We must and we will prove them wrong. Join your local Tea Party organization. Better yet, get your neighbor to join with you. If you are not from the Battle Creek area (I know of one couple from Warren, MI) and would like to stay involved, albeit closer to home, please email me at admin@limitgovnow.com and I’ll help find an organization with the optimum geographic fit for you.
