WHAT HAS LED ME TO WRITE THIS BLOG?
This is an important time in America’s history. Many in the political ruling class along with their enablers in the mainstream media want you to believe that only government can tackle the problems facing us today. These political and media elites believe the American people need the guiding hand of big government to lead them down the path of fulfillment. The problem here is that the more authority citizens turn over to their political leaders the less liberty and individual freedom they keep for themselves. What may have started out decades ago as a “gentle guiding hand” of government has evolved into a nudge, then a push, and now an outright shove.
A shove? Think I’m kidding? Just look around, you don’t have to take my word for it. Elected leaders, which in theory work for us, have the power to take away the health plan you’ve earned through years of hard work. They want to take away the right of the individual to choose the best method of care in consultation with a doctor they choose and concentrate all citizens (and non-citizens) under the control of pencil-pushing government bureaucrats.
These same elected leaders have for years foisted higher energy costs upon us as they have restricted our ability to access our own natural resources. If that weren’t bad enough, these same leaders are now pushing through Cap and Trade legislation that increases taxation on energy. Increased energy taxes not only transfers more of your money to the government, it also transfers more of your liberty to the government. Liberty is lost because the fruits of your time (labor) are not your own – they are taken by government to use as they see fit.
I am one who believes the greatness of America comes from rugged individualism, not collective socialism. It concerns me that the things that make this country great are being cast aside by leaders who are intent on increasing their power by punishing the hard work of Americans like you and me. What is an individual like me to do? How can I help stop this slide to socialism, remove the façade of fascism, and promote the values of free-market capitalism?
I felt the need to do more than just complain to like-minded individuals or forward chain emails critical of tax and spend policies. Not that I don’t enjoy these two activities, but they are kind of like “preaching to the choir.” The message of the prosperity gained by individual freedom and responsibility must be delivered to more than just the believers; it must be delivered to the non-believers and, more importantly, the undecided. Given the great need and urgency surrounding today’s political events I decided I could no longer look at politics as a spectator sport, I needed to become a participant. I felt I needed to reach this wider audience myself and so I created this website to do battle in the arena of public policy ideas.
WHAT WILL THIS BLOG DISCUSS?
It is my intent to focus primarily upon issues of local and state interest for citizens of Michigan. Many times these issues fly under the radar when in fact they can have a larger impact on our day to day lives. It is my aim to offer you, the reader and hopefully a voter, information and perspective that increase your insight into local issues and officeholders.
I will also focus on matters of national concern. There are many website and blogs that deal with major national issues such as ObamaCare and Cap and Trade. My focus on national issues will be with respect to Michigan’s elected federal officials.
Support for our men and women in uniform is another topic that I will discuss on my website as it holds high importance for me. As it did for every American, the events of September 11, 2001, had a tremendous impact upon me. In the days and weeks following the attack I realized that it is the men and women of our armed forces who protect the freedom and liberty we currently enjoy. I don’t know why I hadn’t realized this before; maybe it was because there hadn’t been an attack on America soil in my lifetime. Where would we be without these courageous citizens and the veterans that preceded them?
It is my hope that, through my website, you’ll be motivated to increase your participation in troop support activities.
Of course, my perspectives come from someone that is biased toward the benefits of limited government and expanded personal freedom and responsibility. In contrast, if you want a perspective that is biased toward big government you can read just about any newspaper out there or tune into the evening news. At least when visiting my website I provide a full disclosure regarding my personal point view. The same cannot be said for most mainstream media organizations
